Flan was bred by Marc van Ransbeke from Dendermonde, Belgium. Marc trialled with Flan until October 2009, when she was sold to us. That season they were well on their way of becoming part of the Belgian Continental team.
Flan is a very pretty, powerfully built bitch with an
appealing pedigree. Her father is Jack from René Maes, a full brother of
Jo de Meyst his Taff (owner now Luca Fini) and they were born out of the combination Clifton Taff 221711 and Di 219496 of Con McGarry. The same combination bred the mother of James McGee's Becca, winner of the Irish National in 2005 and 2007 and vice Supreme international champion of 2005.
The Mother of Flan, Plyn has run in open class for many years. She is out of Sire Dan from René Maes, who was 2nd at the Continental 1998 and Continental Champion 1999 with previous owner and
breeder Tjitse Terpstra. Mother of Dan was Tjitse Terpstra's Megan, who bred many succesful trial dogs in the past.
Flan has been with us since 2009. She was supposed to become a member of our geese chasing team, but it was clear from the start that her talents far exceeded that of merely chasing geese and now she is a member of Dorine's sheepdog trial team.
Flan has a very nice working style, a real eye-catcher. She is quite intense on her sheep, has a natural outrun with great scope and a very good feel for her sheep. She is fast, inexhaustible and a very good listener. Other than that she is a
happy, friendly bitch that has fitted in well with the pack from the first day she came to us.
